Verbo TO HAVE - Tener o Haber
Otro de los verbos que goza de una particular importancia en el idioma inglés por los significados que puede tener y por sus diversos usos, es el verbo TO HAVE, cuyo significado principal en castellano es "tener" y "haber" de acuerdo al sentido de la frase:
You have a dog. Tienes un perro. (Se aplica como verbo tener)
I have played soccer. He jugado fútbol. (Se aplica como verbo haber)
I have breakfast at 8 o'clock. Tomo el desayuno a las 8 en punto.

En algunos casos también puede tener otros significados como por ejemplo "tomar":

En el siguiente cuadro se observa la declinación del verbo TO HAVE en el modo indicativo del Presente Simple:
Observa que la tercera persona del singular HE / SHE / IT cambia deHAVE a HAS. En el presente simple puede aplicarse la contracción entre el pronombre y el verbo en el modo afirmativo como 've o 's según seahave o has (You've / He's) y en el modo negativo como haven't ohasn't según corresponda.

Aquí también se aplica la contracción entre el pronombre y el verbo. En el modo afirmativo como 'd para todos los pronombres (I'd / They'd) y en el modo negativo como hadn't.
Muchas veces se plantea una duda ante el uso de HAVE o HAVE GOT. Ambas formas son correctas, pero debemos aclarar que el uso del verbo TO HAVE acompañado de GOT corresponde a un uso frecuente en el inglés británico y no tan usual en el inglés americano:
